Bangkok Land plans to build a 45,000-seat stadium in Muang Thong Thani with an investment of up to 10 billion baht. The project will be located at the Thunder Dome site and the nearby football stadium. The company aims to complete the development within five years.
Chief executive Paul Kanjanapas said the goal is to turn Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi into a major entertainment and events hub. The area has hosted the Sports Authority of Thailand on a 30-year lease since the 1998 Asian Games. The lease ends in three years, returning the land to Bangkok Land.
The new stadium will be the largest in Muang Thong Thani, with a capacity close to the open-air Rajamangala National Stadium, which seats over 50,000 people. The Lake Muang Thong Thani monorail station stands directly in front of the planned site.
Facilities in the area already include Impact Arena with 12,000 seats, Impact Challenger with space for 25,000 people, expressway access, the Pink Line monorail, and 5,000 hotel rooms expected to open in the next eight years. Bangkok Land expects the Pink Line, which added two new stations in May, to boost visitor numbers by more than 20%. During the Thaifex–Anuga Asia 2025 event, the monorail carried about 16,000 passengers daily and reduced car traffic by 4,000 vehicles.
Impact Exhibition Management, a subsidiary, is targeting 9 billion baht in revenue by 2030, up from 4 billion projected for this year. Growth is expected from the Impact Real Estate Investment Trust and income from new hotels, events, and restaurants.
Impact recently signed a 20-year lease with Live Nation for Impact Arena, valued at 4.6 billion baht. Renovations on the arena are set to start next year with a budget of US $90 million (322 million baht). Planned upgrades include VIP rooms, lighting systems, and faster event set-up and dismantling to host more shows. The company wants to grow revenue from self-hosted events from the current 5-8% to 30-50%.
Two new Hilton-managed hotels with 1,000 rooms will open by 2028 near Muang Thong Lake. This will add to the 1,000 rooms already available at the existing Ibis and Novotel hotels. Accor reported these hotels as its top-performing properties in Thailand in the first half of the year, driven by steady meetings, events, and concerts.
For the second half of this year, more than 300 events are confirmed, including Summer Sonic Bangkok 2025, an Otop exhibition, a Mariah Carey concert, and a Motor Expo. Impact also plans to relaunch its culinary school under the name Impact Culinova later this year, offering short courses and consultancy services from professional chefs.
Future plans include a shopping mall and retail complex near the lake, attracting interest from Hong Kong investors, and a branded water park with immersive attractions to encourage longer visitor stays.
